The Goa government is driving a mission to establish 11,000 'Lakhpati Didis' in the state by the fiscal year's end, aiming to boost rural economies and empower women through targeted livelihood schemes. An official reported this ambitious goal as part of the state's ongoing efforts to enhance rural development through self-help groups (SHGs).
Under the Goa State Rural Livelihood Mission, 3,804 SHGs have been established, engaging 48,306 members across the state. 'Lakhpati Didis' are women SHG members achieving an annual household income exceeding Rs 1 lakh, supported by a significant community investment fund and revolving loans.
The initiative has sparked entrepreneurship, with many SHGs engaging in farm activities and others exploring micro-enterprises in handicrafts and services. The mission further supports SHGs under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises scheme, hoping to inspire more success stories such as that of Sneha Naik, who is reviving traditional crafts.
