A rare typescript of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's beloved novella, 'The Little Prince,' is soon to hit the market with a steep price tag of $1.25 million. Described as a 'literary treasure' by book dealers, this unique copy contains extensive handwritten corrections by the author himself.
Written during his exile in New York amidst World War Two, this French-language typescript is one of only three known to exist. It provides a glimpse into Saint-Exupéry's creative process and includes what is believed to be the first appearance of a famous line: 'It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; the essential is invisible to the eye.'
Offering a unique insight into the making of a classic, the artifact will be on display at Abu Dhabi Art from November 20-24. Book dealer Sammy Jay notes this is the most exceptional example he's encountered, featuring original sketches and unrivaled in its representation of the author's original vision.
