Scarlett Johansson to Star in and Produce 'The Girl in the Lake'

Scarlett Johansson will produce and possibly star in an adaptation of Lauren Oliver's mystery thriller 'The Girl in the Lake'. Amazon MGM Studios and Scott Stuber have acquired the film rights. Oliver, known for young adult fiction, will write and executive produce the screenplay.

Scarlett Johansson, renowned actor and singer, has partnered with Scott Stuber to produce a film adaptation of Lauren Oliver's novel 'The Girl in the Lake', Deadline reports. Johansson is also in negotiations to portray the leading role in the mystery thriller.

The acquisition of the adaptation rights was secured by Amazon MGM Studios and producer Scott Stuber. Bestselling author Lauren Oliver, recognized for her young adult works, will be responsible for the screenplay and will serve as an executive producer on the project.

The production team includes Johansson, Stuber, Nick Nesbitt, and Jonathan Lia under the banner These Pictures, alongside Marc Resteghini of Jack Tar Pictures. This project marks Oliver's shift to adult thriller narratives, following her successful young adult novels like 'Panic' and the 'Delirium' trilogy. 'Panic' was adapted into a series by Amazon Studios.

Johansson, who made her cinematic debut with 'North' in 1994, boasts a distinguished career, having won a British Academy Film Award and a Tony Award, and receiving nominations for two Academy Awards and five Golden Globes. She recently appeared with Channing Tatum in 'Fly Me to the Moon', directed by Greg Berlanti.
