Jayme Lawson, renowned for her portrayal of Mayor Bella Real in 2022's 'The Batman', has been cast in a significant role in 'The Running Man,' a film directed by Edgar Wright and adapted from Stephen King's novel, sources confirmed to Deadline. Lawson will portray Sheila, the wife of Glen Powell's character, Ben, who battles to care for their ill child in a dystopian future, motivating Ben to partake in the titular competition.

Alongside Lawson, the star-studded cast includes Josh Brolin, Karl Glusman, Katy O'Brian, Daniel Ezra, and Lee Pace. Directed by Edgar Wright, who co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Bacall, filming for 'The Running Man' is slated to commence in London early next year.

The narrative, originally penned in 1982 under King's pseudonym Richard Bachman, is set in 2025 within an authoritarian America. The government distracts its citizens through violent game shows. The story follows Ben, played by Powell, as he enters 'The Running Man', a lethal competition where participants are pursued by professional killers. The longer contestants survive, the greater their earnings. As the game unfolds, Powell's character defies the rules and exposes the nefarious secrets of the show. Brolin is positioned as the merciless show producer, while O'Brian takes the role of a fellow participant.

Jayme Lawson, primarily known for her roles in Matt Reeves' 'The Batman' and Gina Prince-Bythewood's 'The Woman King', is also set to appear in Ryan Coogler's upcoming horror film 'Sinners', set for release on March 7, 2025, according to Deadline.
