The Walt Disney Co. has announced that James Gorman, an executive from Morgan Stanley, will assume the role of chairman starting January 2, 2025. This strategic decision comes as the entertainment leader continues its quest to appoint a new CEO by early 2026.
Gorman will replace Mark Parker, who has served on Disney's board for nine years. Gorman, making the transition from his role as executive chairman at Morgan Stanley, brings with him a wealth of experience, having led Morgan Stanley as CEO from 2010 to 2023.
Disney CEO Bob Iger has expressed confidence in Gorman's expertise, which has significantly benefited the company's board. Iger, who returned to Disney in 2022 after a rocky phase under Bob Chapek, emphasized the importance of a smooth leadership transition, scheduled for completion by December 2026.
