Assam is gearing up to commemorate the historic recognition of Assamese as a Classical Language with a week-long event called 'Bhasa Gaurob Saptah' from November 3 to 9, 2024. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The Union Cabinet's decision, dated October 3, to grant Classical Language status to Assamese, along with Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, and Bengali, has been met with gratitude and excitement. The state cabinet of Assam formally extended its gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this acknowledgment of the state's rich cultural and linguistic heritage.
During the celebration period, various events will be organized by universities, schools, and civil society organizations to honor the contributions of Assamese writers and scholars who have significantly influenced the language since the 4th century AD. The week's festivities will underscore the deep-seated cultural significance and legacy of the Assamese language.
