The Union Cabinet's decision, dated October 3, to grant Classical Language status to Assamese, along with Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, and Bengali, has been met with gratitude and excitement. During the celebration period, various events will be organized by universities, schools, and civil society organizations to honor the contributions of Assamese writers and scholars who have significantly influenced the language since the 4th century AD. The week's festivities will underscore the deep-seated cultural significance and legacy of the Assamese language.
