Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Albania to inaugurate a major Turkish-funded mosque in the capital, Tirana. The mosque, featuring 50-meter minarets, is one of the largest in the Balkans, underlining the cultural and religious ties between the two countries.
Apart from the cultural landmark, Erdogan announced that Turkiye would provide Albania with an unspecified number of military drones, enhancing Albania's defense capabilities. Erdogan's engagement illustrates Turkiye's commitment to strengthening political and economic relations with Albania, a country where over half of the population is Muslim.
The visit also included meetings with Albanian President Bajram Begaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama, resulting in agreements to bolster cooperation in agriculture and education. After discussions, both leaders called for a ceasefire in ongoing conflicts and stressed the importance of a peaceful resolution. These actions highlight Turkiye's role as a key strategic partner and investor in Albania.
