Prominent figures and the broader Indian community are in mourning following the passing of veteran industrialist Ratan Tata, who died at the age of 86 on Wednesday night. Aamir Khan, along with his ex-wife, director-screenwriter Kiran Rao, visited Breach Candy Hospital to pay their respects. Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, Tata's immense contributions to the country have been widely celebrated.
Aamir Khan expressed deep sorrow, stating, "It is a sad day for the country. The contribution of Ratan Tata to the country is priceless. We will all miss him a lot." Echoing his sentiments, Kiran Rao told ANI, "It is a sad day today. He was a very good person. It is really sad that he is no more. He has done a lot for the country." Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde confirmed that the last rites would be conducted with full state honors, with Tata's body available for public viewing at Mumbai's National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) until 4 PM.
Condolences have poured in from across the nation, including messages of sympathy from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who will attend the last rituals on behalf of the Government of India. Recognized for his leadership of the Tata Group from 1991 until 2012, and his philanthropic efforts through trusts, Ratan Tata's death marks the end of an era for India's corporate sphere.
