The Women in Art Fair in London is dedicated to addressing gender imbalances in the art world by creating a specific platform for female artists. Held at the central Mall Galleries, it opens alongside Frieze Week, a prominent art event in the city.
According to fair director Jacqueline Harvey, historical bias has resulted in female artists receiving less recognition and opportunity. A 2022 report revealed that works by women represented a mere 3.3% of auction sales between 2008 and mid-2022. In response, the fair prominently features artwork from around 150 female artists.
Chinese artist Wen Wu, among those showcased, emphasized the importance of amplifying women's voices in the art scene. The fair aims to boost women's presence, offering a vital space for curated exhibitions and gallery participation, and runs until October 12.
