The prestigious 70th National Film Awards saw President Droupadi Murmu presenting veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The ceremony, held at Vigyan Bhawan, celebrated outstanding contributions across various categories, recognizing the talent and diversity of Indian cinema.
Despite the celebration, President Murmu emphasized the need for greater female representation, noting that just 15 out of 85 awards were received by women. She called for increased efforts in women-led development within the film industry, stating that films and social media have the power to drive societal change.
Among the winners were AR Rahman for best background music, Rishab Shetty for best actor, and Sooraj R Barjatya as best director. The awards highlighted celebrated achievements while urging the industry to foster more inclusive growth.
