Renowned music composer AR Rahman has been honored with his seventh National Film Award for his exceptional work in 'Ponniyin Selvan: I', directed by Mani Ratnam. The accolade for Best Music Director (Background music) was presented by President Droupadi Murmu during the prestigious 70th National Film Awards ceremony, held at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Rahman expressed his deep sense of gratitude and pride upon receiving the award. He highlighted the significance of this accolade, especially noting his longstanding collaboration with filmmaker Mani Ratnam. "Every time we work together, it feels special, and he always draws the best from everyone involved," Rahman stated, reflecting on their successful partnership which began with 'Roja'.

The announcement of winners for the 70th National Film Awards took place in August 2024. 'Ponniyin Selvan-Part 1', a cinematic rendition of Kalki Krishnamurthy's iconic Tamil novel, stars prominent actors Vikram, Trisha Krishnan, Karthik Sivakumar, Jayam Ravi, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The film marks the continued collaboration between Aishwarya and Vikram following their 2010 success in 'Raavan'.
