In a significant development for Indian sports, Vedanta Ltd announced its acquisition of the Kalinga Lancers, a prominent Bhubaneswar-based hockey team, just ahead of the Hockey India League (HIL).

This strategic move underscores Vedanta's ongoing dedication to fostering sports in Odisha, a region benefiting from the company's socio-economic contributions for over two decades. Previously co-owned by Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), the Kalinga Lancers will now be fully owned by Vedanta Aluminium.

Non-Executive Director Priya Agarwal Hebbar reaffirmed Vedanta's commitment, emphasizing their investment in the Kalinga Lancers and the future of Indian hockey. The acquisition plan includes assembling a formidable team for the upcoming HIL season, while also improving infrastructure, securing sponsorships, and exploring strategic partnerships.
