The New India Foundation has unveiled the shortlist for the Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay NIF Book Prize, showcasing a diverse range of non-fiction works that delve into the lives of influential Indian leaders and the country's cultural dynamics.
This year's shortlist includes notable works such as Neerja Choudhry's 'How Prime Ministers Decide,' Ashok Gopal's 'A Part Apart: The Life and Thought of B.R. Ambedkar,' and Radhika Iyengar's 'Fire on the Ganges: Life Among the Dead in Banaras.' Other distinguished entries include 'H-Pop: The Secretive World of Hindutva Pop Stars' by Kunal Purohit and 'Sheikh Abdullah: The Caged Lion of Kashmir' by Chitralekha Zutshi.
The prize, carrying a cash award of Rs 15 lakhs, is awarded to the finest non-fiction writing about the history of Independent India, recognizing narratives that illuminate the nation's evolving history.
