In a controversial statement, Devendra Bhuyar, an independent MLA from Maharashtra's Amravati district, has come under fire for his comments on the marriage prospects of farmers' sons. Bhuyar suggested that women choose their partners based on occupation, with less attractive women opting to marry farmers' sons.
Bhuyar, a supporter of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, made these remarks while discussing the challenges faced by farmers during a gathering in Warud tehsil. He implied that only women at the 'bottom of the lot' would marry into farming families, and claimed their children would also lack good looks.
The comments sparked outrage, with Congress leader Yashomati Thakur condemning Bhuyar's language and calling for stricter control over MLAs by those in power. Thakur, an MLA from the same district, warned that society would not tolerate such derogatory language about women.
