Political leaders from both Congress and BJP in Maharashtra have voiced strong disapproval of the removal of Sai Baba statues from temples in Varanasi. The contentious issue has stirred significant reactions, with state BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule stating that Sai Baba is a revered figure who deserves respect, and any attempts to insult him should cease.
Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that Sai Baba transcends caste, creed, and religion. He called the events in Varanasi unfortunate and stressed the need for unity and respect for the saint's legacy.
The Santan Rakshak Dal, a Hindu outfit, has been spearheading the campaign to remove Sai Baba statues, arguing that he is not a deity and should not receive worship. Sai Baba, who spent much of his life in Shirdi, Maharashtra, attracts millions of devotees to the Shirdi temple dedicated to him each year.
