Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi commemorated Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary with heartfelt tributes on Wednesday.

Rahul Gandhi expressed that Mahatma Gandhi was not merely an individual but a profound way of living and thinking. Kharge emphasized the continued relevance of Gandhi's ideas, which they consider under challenge in present times.

Rahul Gandhi stated, "Bapu has taught me that if we want to live, we should live without fear - we should walk on the path of truth, love, compassion, and harmony while uniting everyone." He described Gandhi ji as more than an individual but a philosophy of life, in a post on X.

In addition to paying floral tributes at Mahatma Gandhi's memorial at Rajghat, Sonia Gandhi and Kharge participated in a central hall function in Parliament, attended by Speaker Om Birla and BJP leaders including union minister and BJP President J P Nadda.

Kharge reaffirmed that the principles of peace, truth, non-violence, and satyagraha that Mahatma Gandhi upheld continue to inspire them. He conveyed best wishes to all citizens on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

The Congress also honored former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary and former Congress leader K Kamaraj on his death anniversary, with Rahul Gandhi highlighting their respective legacies of simplicity, humility, and dedication.

Other Congress leaders, including K C Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, paid their tributes, reiterating the enduring relevance of Gandhi's teachings amid contemporary challenges of hatred and violence.
