West Bengal has risen to the top position for women-owned micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Tuesday.

Banerjee cited a report by the Centre which stated that West Bengal accounts for 23.42% of all MSMEs owned by women across the country.

''On the eve of the 'Devi Paksha' (fortnight of the Goddess), I am proud to announce that the MSME Annual Report 2023-24 by the Ministry of MSME has declared West Bengal as the leading state in the landscape of women-owned MSMEs,'' Banerjee said on X. She highlighted that this statistic underscores West Bengal's commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs and their crucial role in the state's economic growth.
