The Behala Nutan Dal Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata, a hallmark of cross-cultural artistic collaboration, has been crafted by Irish and Indian artists. This year's theme, "Kalpana," meaning "imagination," embodies the rich artistic traditions of both countries with a striking depiction of Hindu goddess Durga and Celtic goddess Danu.
This initiative commemorates the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Ireland. Kevin Kelly, Ambassador of Ireland to India, praised the collaboration during his visit to the pandal. He remarked on the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations, highlighting their shared journey towards independence from British rule.
The unique open-sided structure of the pandal, made from natural materials like bamboo and wood, serves as a testament to this creative synergy. Indian artist Sandip Saha, along with Irish counterparts including Lisa Sweeney and Richard Babington, expressed their admiration for the seamless integration of diverse artistic styles, despite the language barrier. The event underscores the unifying power of art in bridging cultures and fostering global connections.
