On Tuesday, the Uttar Pradesh government sanctioned a proposal to restart closed cinema halls and enhance the existing ones.

In a meeting led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the cabinet approved an Integrated Incentive Scheme targeting the construction of multiplexes in districts lacking multiplexes and single-screen cinema halls. This initiative will cover a period of five years.

According to State Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Suresh Khanna, the scheme will aid in the reconstruction and remodeling of closed single-screen and operational cinema halls while encouraging the construction of new multiplexes. Notably, the financial grants for this scheme will be sourced from the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) collected from these cinemas and multiplexes, ensuring no additional fiscal burden on the government.
