South Indian actress Padmapriya has revealed a disturbing incident from several years ago, where she was slapped by a filmmaker on the set of a Tamil film.
During a program, she clarified that media reports at the time falsely claimed she had slapped the director, questioning why she would then complain to film associations.
This incident illustrates the broader issue of dismissing and misrepresenting women's experiences in the film industry.
Although the director was barred from making films for six months, Padmapriya chose to stop accepting roles in Tamil films thereafter.
The actress, who has also worked in Malayalam movies, pointed out the inequality faced by women professionals in the film industry, a concern highlighted by the Justice Hema Committee's recent report.
