The body of a 40-year-old banker who jumped off the trans-harbour Atal Setu was discovered washed ashore in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday, according to police reports.

Sushant Chakravarti, a deputy manager with a nationalised bank, left his SUV on the Sewri bridge and leaped into the sea on Monday morning.

Chakravarti's wife mentioned that he worked at the bank's Fort branch in south Mumbai and complained of work pressure. Authorities launched a search and rescue operation and traced the family using the vehicle's number plate.

On Tuesday, police received information that a body had washed up on the shore at JNPT in Navi Mumbai, which was later identified as Chakravarti. He is survived by his wife and seven-year-old daughter.

The case has been registered as an accidental death.

The 'Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu', also known as the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link, is a six-lane bridge extending 21.8 km, including a 16.5 km sea link, inaugurated in January this year.
