Nagaland celebrated the International Day of Older Persons on Tuesday, emphasizing the need for more inclusive public spaces, specialized healthcare, and educational programs promoting intergenerational respect.

Addressing the gathering, MLA and Advisor for Social Welfare, Wangpang Konyak, highlighted the major contributions of senior citizens to society while urging younger generations to engage meaningfully with the elderly.

Konyak stressed that ageing with dignity should transform from a slogan to actionable change, ensuring seniors live in comfort and respect. Social Welfare Secretary Martha R Ritse underscored the urgency of developing robust geriatric care systems ahead of the projected demographic shift by 2030.
