Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, along with 120 others, was detained at the Delhi border while marching to demand Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh. The group has launched an indefinite fast at various police stations where they are currently held.

Leading the 'Delhi Chalo Padyatra' that began from Leh a month ago, Wangchuk and others were detained Monday night for violating prohibitory orders. Organized by the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), the march aimed to demand statehood for Ladakh and inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, among other requests.

The detained activists sought official permission and had reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah but were still detained. Women protesters were reportedly detained alongside men, although Delhi Police denied detaining women.
