The Congress has sharply criticized the Modi administration for detaining climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and multiple Ladakhi citizens, describing the action as 'unacceptable.' Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must heed Ladakh's demands.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused the government of 'arrogance' and called the detentions a 'cowardly action' that disrupts peaceful protests by citizens from Ladakh. Around 120 individuals, including Wangchuk, were detained on their way to Delhi, where they were advocating for Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh.

Kharge stated that the detentions represent the Modi government's plan to exploit Ladakh's ecological resources for corporate interests, ignoring widespread public calls for protecting tribal communities. Other Congress leaders echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that the fight against the current administration's policies continues. The demonstration was organized by the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance, who have been demanding statehood and other rights for Ladakh for the past four years.
