Sophie Turner candidly spoke about the trials of single motherhood and the nuances of raising her two daughters, according to a report by People. The 'Game of Thrones' actress shares daughters Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2, with her ex-husband, Joe Jonas.

Turner delved into how being a mother helped her prepare for her role as a jewel thief and single mom Joan Hannington in the forthcoming TV series 'Joan.' She revealed, 'If I hadn't been a mother, I don't know if I would have been able to bring the same energy that I did into it.'

Discussing the character, she added, 'It's such a struggle being a single mother. Joan doesn't go about it in the best way, but it is amazing to see her fighting for her daughter. It's also really important for kids to understand how hard parents work for them.' Her comments come soon after she and Jonas finalized their divorce, following a settlement agreement.

Turner disclosed that the series' shooting coincided with the middle of her divorce, and playing Joan gave her significant strength. 'Joan changed me quite a lot,' Turner said. 'From utter desperation comes so much will and ambition. The series came around at a time in my life when I had to be ambitious and had to have such strong will and fight against the forces. She gave me a lot of strength.'

Turner, in a lighter vein, also mentioned that Joan taught her 'how to do a good ring swap in a handbag.' The six-part series 'Joan' is a thrilling dramatization of the life of one of Britain's most notorious diamond thieves, set in mid-1980s London.

Addressing societal perceptions, Turner noted that opinions on single motherhood have changed little since she portrayed the character from the 1980s. 'There's so much shame that comes with motherhood,' she explained. 'You go to work, you're shamed. If you don't go to work, you're shamed.'

'Joan' is slated to premiere on US screens on October 2, People reported. (ANI)
