Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, an accomplished fighter pilot with more than 5,000 hours of flying experience, assumed charge as the new chief of the Indian Air Force on Monday. He succeeds the retiring Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari.
Previously serving as Vice Chief, Singh's career spans nearly four decades, during which he has held a variety of command, staff, instructional, and foreign appointments. He has commanded an operational fighter squadron and a frontline air base. As a test pilot, he led the MiG-29 upgrade project management team in Moscow and directed flight testing for the Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas.
Amid concerns over delays in the supply of the LCA Tejas-Mark 1A variant by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), Singh's leadership comes at a critical time for the IAF. Recognized with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Singh is known for his fitness enthusiasm and love for squash.
