VVS Laxman's Legacy: Building India's Cricket Future
VVS Laxman, head of BCCI's Centre of Excellence, reflects on his journey of creating a cricket 'supply chain' that promises India’s dominance in the sport for the next decade. His efforts have focused on skill refinement, mental conditioning, and collaborative coaching with state associations.
With mild trepidation, VVS Laxman embraced his role as head of the BCCI's Centre of Excellence, but he now leaves content, having established a cricket 'supply chain' poised to secure India's global dominance. Overseeing the transmutation of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) into a premier CoE was no small feat.
Under Laxman's tenure since 2021, following Rahul Dravid, the academy has become a cornerstone for fostering talent, both male and female, ensuring consistent top-tier players for at least the next decade. The inauguration of the CoE on Sunday marked a significant milestone.
Laxman credited the robust pipeline of talented cricketers to meticulous monitoring and personalized grooming without altering their natural gameplay. A system involving state associations aids in player development continuity, while mental conditioning experts ensure athletes remain psychologically competitive.
