Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, known for his stellar performances in films like "Mrigayaa" and "Disco Dancer," has been named the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the government's highest honor in cinema.
The announcement was made by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on X, citing Mithun Da's inspiring cinematic journey and iconic contributions to Indian Cinema.
Chakraborty, who debuted in Mrinal Sen's 1976 film ''Mrigayaa,'' will receive the award at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony scheduled for October 8, 2024.
