At the 12th edition of Kerala Travel Mart, experts stressed the latest trends shaping the global tourism industry, focusing on environmentally sustainable practices, experiential travel, and heightened self-care spending. According to Dipak Deva, managing director of SITA, tourists' preferences will increasingly lean towards sustainable travel products, with self-care spending in the sector projected to quadruple by 2027.
Deva pointed out that travellers are prioritizing experiential travel over daily luxuries, and for Kerala, identifying new tourism destinations could enhance visitors' experiences. Additionally, the rise of solo travel was noted, with Google's 'Solo Travel' searches doubling in 2023. He also mentioned Europe's leading role in the carbon offsets market, driven by the global pursuit of net-zero emissions.
Celebrity chef Siddiq Mohammed emphasized incorporating Kerala's culinary traditions into tourism, proposing the development of culinary tours and Ayurvedic cuisine experiences. Najeeb, MD of Great India Tour Company, moderated the event, which showcased 347 stalls from public and private entities.
