Italian filmmaker Giuseppe Tornatore presented the Film Heritage Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award for Cinema Projection to film projectionists at an event hosted at Mumbai's Regal Cinema. The occasion featured a full-house screening of the restored version of his beloved film ''Cinema Paradiso.''
The Oscar-winning director, known for classics like ''Malena'' and ''Ennio,'' attended the three-day Italian Film Festival ''Cinema Italian Style'' in India. The festival showcased restored versions of Tornatore's films, alongside other Italian classics such as Luchino Visconti's ''Senso,'' Federico Fellini's ''La Dolce Vita,'' and Sergio Leone's ''Once Upon a Time in America.''
''Cinema Paradiso,'' a 1988 coming-of-age dramedy, pays homage to the essential role of projectionists. Tornatore honoured Sukumar Ghosh and Chand Kumar Mondal with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Cinema Projection. Ghosh and Mondal received a cash prize sponsored by filmmakers Ashim Ahluwalia, Atul Sabharwal, and Vikramaditya Motwane.
