Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the water conservation efforts of women in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi district, lauding their initiative in giving a new life to the Ghurari River.

He noted that the women, through their Self Help Groups (SHGs), showcased a strong commitment to addressing India's water crisis, particularly in the water-scarce Bundelkhand region. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath thanked the Prime Minister for recognizing these efforts, emphasizing the impact of the 'Jal Sahelis' who led the campaign to revive the river.

The initiative involved the construction of a check dam in the Simrawari village, Babina development block, using sand-filled sacks to conserve rainwater, ultimately revitalizing the river. This effort has provided essential resources for local communities, enabling access to water for various needs and setting a powerful example of water conservation.

The state government's extensive water conservation measures across Bundelkhand, culminating in the 'Har Ghar Nal Se Jal Yojana', have resulted in significant water supply improvements, with 95 percent of households receiving tap water connections. Yogi Adityanath celebrated the women's efforts as a moment of pride for Uttar Pradesh, expressing hope that this recognition infuses new energy into ongoing conservation efforts.
