Prince Harry's Charitable Initiative Aims to Empower Southern African Youth
Prince Harry is convening world business leaders and philanthropists in Southern Africa to address challenges faced by young people in the region. His charity, Sentebale, co-founded with Prince Seeiso, focuses on issues such as health, wealth disparity, and climate. The initiative follows Harry's long-standing commitment to philanthropy in memory of his mother, Princess Diana.
Prince Harry is taking another step in his philanthropic journey by bringing together global business leaders and philanthropists to address the challenges facing young people in Southern Africa. The initiative, led by his charity organisation Sentebale, will hold a series of meetings and discussions in Lesotho and Johannesburg. This will be Harry's first visit to Southern Africa since 2019.
Sentebale, co-founded by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006, initially aimed to support children and young people affected by HIV/AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana. However, its mission has since expanded to tackle broader issues including health challenges, wealth inequality, and climate change. Harry's dedication to the region stems from his desire to honor his late mother, Princess Diana.
The scheduled sessions will include private work groups, panel discussions, and site visits, all aimed at forming partnerships with local organisations and businesses to create solutions for Southern African youth. Sentebale Board Chair Sophie Chandauka highlighted the importance of investing in digital skills, education, and job creation to prevent economic vulnerability among young people.
