In a dramatic overnight operation, a total of 29 individuals, including 27 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, were rescued from a bus stranded on a flooded causeway in Gujarat's Bhavnagar district, officials reported on Friday.

The incident occurred near Koliyak village on Thursday evening. District Collector RK Mehta, who supervised the rescue, explained that the bus, headed towards Bhavnagar after visiting the Nishkalank Mahadev temple, attempted to cross a submerged causeway following heavy rains.

The force of the water caused the front of the bus to dip into the river, obstructing its rear on the causeway. Rescue teams reached the scene, initially using a mini-truck to transfer everyone through the bus's rear window. However, this vehicle too became stranded, prompting the use of a larger truck to finally ensure everyone's safe transfer around 3 am. The rescued individuals were offered accommodation, food, and medical tests in Bhavnagar.
