In an unprecedented move, the Delhi Zoo has reached out to international counterparts in Dubai, Israel, Africa, and Europe for animal exchange programmes. This step aims at bolstering the diversity of species at the National Zoological Park in the country's capital.

Officials have provided a list of animals available for exchange and are currently awaiting responses from potential partner zoos in these regions.

"We are in discussions with international zoos in Dubai, Israel, Africa, and Europe. Simultaneously, we are coordinating with state zoos across India, including Gujarat, Lucknow, Ludhiana, and the Northeast," an official told PTI. The zoo already boasts a single jaguar, an African elephant, ostriches, Sika deer, a hippopotamus, and various exotic birds. However, the focus is on acquiring non-exotic species due to international reluctance to send exotic animals.
