For the past several months, the small village of Titora has been preoccupied with but one issue – the admission of Atul Kumar into IIT-Dhanbad and making sure he actually gets there.

It takes a village, and the 18-year-old Dalit youth and his family have realised just that. The residents of Titora first got together to raise funds and then rallied behind them as they waged a battle in the Supreme Court.

Atul Kumar, who cracked the highly competitive JEE Advanced exam, faced a roadblock in his dream of joining the elite engineering institution after missing the deadline to pay the required fee of Rs 17,500 due to a technical glitch.

His family and village members pinned their hopes on the Supreme Court, which stated it would help Atul as much as possible. Rajendra Kumar, Atul's father, said his son faced trouble for something beyond his control. Despite securing an electrical engineering seat at IIT-Dhanbad, a technical glitch on the online portal prevented them from submitting the fee on time.

The village of Titora, located about 100 km from the Supreme Court in Delhi, is primarily composed of youth working in sugarcane farms. Atul, taking an unconventional path, aspired to join IIT since class 10, with his parents' unwavering support. The entire village anxiously awaits the court's decision.

Proud villagers like Pawan Kumar, who lent Atul Rs 10,000, and Rajkumar, his primary school teacher, have expressed their support and hope for a positive outcome. Naveen Kumar, another resident, emphasized the village's collective efforts to ensure Atul's admission.

Atul's father continues to pray for a favorable decision, emphasizing the hard work his son put into achieving his IIT dream.
