Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga Bring New Musical Twist to 'Joker: Folie a Deux'

Joaquin Phoenix returns to his iconic role as the Joker in 'Joker: Folie a Deux,' a sequel that introduces fresh musical elements. Reuters reports that Phoenix felt this musical twist was both a natural extension and a new direction for the character.

The film, directed by Todd Phillips, won the best soundtrack award at this year's Venice Film Festival. Phillips' 2019 version of 'Joker' had already set a high bar with 11 Oscar nominations and 2 wins, including Best Actor for Phoenix. 'Joker: Folie a Deux,' released by Warner Bros Pictures, is set two years after the original.

Lady Gaga joins the cast as Harley Quinn, a patient at Arkham State Hospital. The storyline focuses on the relationship between Joker and Quinn, portrayed through music, and delves into complex themes of identity and media influence. The film will have its international release on October 2 and its U.S. release on October 4.
