On Wednesday, actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut retracted her comments endorsing the reinstatement of the three farm laws repealed in 2021. Ranaut emphasized she should remember her dual role as both an artist and a BJP member. This incident wasn't the first controversy involving the Mandi MP.
With the BJP distancing itself and the Congress scrutinizing her, Ranaut's recent political entanglements add to a history of disputes. Last month, she alleged that the farmer protests were leading to a Bangladesh-like crisis in India, with claims of violence and rapes at the site. The BJP promptly clarified that Ranaut is neither permitted nor authorized to comment on party policies.
On the film front, Ranaut's latest project, 'Emergency,' faced delays with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film, where she portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has drawn criticism from Sikh religious groups fearing communal tension. Earlier controversies included her statement that India achieved 'real freedom' in 2014, and her defamatory remarks against veteran screenwriter Javed Akhtar. Social media platform Twitter had also suspended her account for repeated violations but reinstated it after Elon Musk's acquisition.
