Delhi High Court rebuked the Shahi Idgah Managing Committee on Wednesday for its communal politics against Maharani Lakshmi Bai's statue installation in Shahi Idgah Park. Terming her a 'national hero', the court stressed that history shouldn't be divided along communal lines.
The bench of Chief Justice Designate Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela noted that the committee's petition lacked any cause of action and accused it of dragging the court into political matters. The court dismissed the petition and demanded an apology for the scandalous pleadings made against the single judge.
Counsel for the committee apologized, denying political motivations, while the court mandated the deletion of objectionable paragraphs from the appeal. The Delhi government also acknowledged the improper targeting of judges in such pleadings. The DDA was reaffirmed as the rightful authority for maintaining the park.
