Padma Shri awardee Nek Ram Sharma has raised concerns over the irresponsible construction methods and heavy use of chemicals in farming, stating that future generations will suffer as a result. Speaking at a workshop organized by the Himalayan Agroecology Initiative, Sharma stressed the importance of adopting natural farming methods.

'Our food was our medicine, but now hospitals are filled with patients, and even doctors need medication,' Sharma noted, attributing the crisis to the rampant use of chemicals and fertilizers. He urged the government to enforce stringent regulations to counter these harmful practices.

The workshop also featured insights from Dr. Lal Singh, Director of the Himalayan Research Group, who highlighted the need for traditional farm practices and a sustainable agricultural roadmap to ensure nutritious food production.
