The workers' union of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation has strongly opposed the corporation's move to hand over its units to the private sector to be managed on an Operation-and-Management (ONM) basis. The union has urged management to focus on renovating and modernizing these units to attract more tourists.
In an executive meeting, Himachal Pradesh Paryatan Nigam Karamchari Sangh president Hukam Ram voiced concerns about employee insecurity, as it remains unclear which specific units would transition to ONM management.
Rajkumar Sharma, the union's general secretary, noted that most major units are profitable. He suggested that loss-making units should be renovated instead of privatized to better attract tourists.
