Governor R N Ravi of Tamil Nadu recently criticized the inclusion of secularism in India's Constitution, labeling it a European concept that evolved from historical conflicts between the church and the king.
Speaking at an event in Kanyakumari district, Ravi claimed that Bharat is inherently a dharma-centric nation, unlike Europe, and said there was no need for secularism in the country's original constitutional framework.
He further alleged that the term was added during the Emergency by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to appease certain sections of society. Ravi reiterated that the Constituent Assembly had initially rejected secularism, citing India's unique cultural context.
