Indian Youth Activists Emerge Victorious in Commonwealth Youth Council Elections

Four youth activists from India have clinched crucial positions in the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC), representing voices from over 1.5 billion young people across 56 member nations.
Gurdit Singh Vohra was elected Vice Chairperson of Partnerships and Resources, while Falit Sijariya was named Vice Chairperson of Policy and Advocacy. Youth empowerment campaigner Muskaan Anand secured the post of Representative for Asia, and Farhana Jan was designated Representative for Special Interest Groups. Installation of the new members will occur during the Commonwealth Youth Forum at CHOGM 2024 in Samoa.
The CYC elections are particularly momentous this year as the council celebrates its 10th anniversary, focusing on increased youth participation in decision-making. The winners, chosen from 48 shortlisted candidates, will serve a two-year term from 2024 to 2026. They will drive youth-centric projects and policies across the Commonwealth. The newly elected individuals emphasized their commitment to representing youth voices and advancing social justice and development.
