Six individuals are facing charges for allegedly organising an illegal bull race in the Palakkad district earlier this month.
The case, registered against the organisers of the race held at Thonipadam on September 8, includes the owners of the bulls involved.
The police, prompted by information from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), launched an investigation and filed an FIR on Saturday. According to the FIR, the accused unlawfully conducted the race, subjecting the bulls to abuse and putting both animals and spectators at risk.
The case was filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. PETA India's Cruelty Response Coordinator Virendra Singh stated that the Supreme Court and Kerala High Court have clearly banned such events, condemning the treatment of bulls in these races.
