Veteran Bengali actor and theatre personality Manoj Mitra has been hospitalised due to old age-related health issues. The 85-year-old, known for his roles in Tapan Sinha's ‘Banchharamer Bagan’ and Satyajit Ray’s classics, is in a critical condition. He is also a celebrated playwright with over 100 works.

Veteran Bengali actor and eminent theatre personality Manoj Mitra has been hospitalised with old age-related ailments. His condition is currently "very critical," according to officials of the medical facility.

The octogenarian was admitted to the hospital owing to breathing trouble, sodium-potassium imbalance, and other health issues, the officials said.

"Mr. Mitra's condition is very critical. He is under observation," one of the doctors treating him told PTI on Sunday evening.

Famous for his stellar performances in films like Tapan Sinha's 'Banchharamer Bagan,' Manoj Mitra has also acted in legendary director Satyajit Ray's 'Ghare Baire' and 'Ganashatru.' Mitra, 85, has featured in numerous films directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Basu Chatterjee, Tarun Majumdar, Shakti Samanta, and Goutam Ghose. He has written over 100 plays and received several accolades, including the Sangeet Natak Akademy Award for Best Playwright in 1985.
