A tragic series of incidents unfolded in Uttarakhand on Sunday, as three people, including a child, were washed away in river waters, police reported.
Two young men from Delhi were among the victims. They drowned while bathing in the Ganga river at Shivpuri, near Rishikesh. Despite efforts by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to locate them, they remain missing. The youths, Akash (23) and Sandeep (23), from Delhi's Okhla, had arrived with friends early on Sunday morning and were caught by strong currents shortly after entering the water, police said. Their families have been notified.
In a separate occurrence, a 12-year-old boy was swept away by the Kosi river at Puchhdi village, near Ramnagar in Nainital. The boy, who had gone to bathe with his father and siblings, was caught by the river's strong currents. An SDRF team managed to recover his body. Authorities continue to investigate the incidents.
