India will open two new consulates in Boston and Los Angeles, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed on Sunday. This measure responds to the longstanding appeal of the Indian American community in these prominent US cities.

Boston is known as the US education and pharma hub, while Los Angeles, home to Hollywood, will host the next summer Olympics. Additionally, current US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti is the city's former mayor.

Modi also reminded that last year he announced the opening of a consulate in Seattle, which is now operational. This new decision followed community suggestions. During his New York address, Modi said, "After reviewing your suggestions, India decided to open consulates in Boston and Los Angeles." India currently has existing consulates in New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, and Seattle, with the Embassy located in Washington, DC.

The announcement was welcomed by Los Angeles residents. "This decision demonstrates the Modi government's responsiveness to the needs of Indian Americans and American business and political leaders," stated Gunjan Bagla, CEO of Amritt Inc., who played a pivotal role in this effort.

Los Angeles, as the USA's second largest city, manages about 40% of all overseas trade through its ports. With the growing global relevance of the Indo-Pacific region, establishing an Indian consulate here is crucial. 'NRIs and Indian Americans will benefit significantly, especially in emergency travel situations,' Bagla noted.
