Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations regarding the use of animal fat in Tirupati laddus. The controversy has drawn nationwide attention, demanding the protection of the sanctity of Hindu temples and their offerings.
Naidu accused the previous YSRCP government of altering ghee procurement procedures, while YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy denounced him as a "habitual liar" and called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention. Naidu claimed that changes in procurement processes by the current administration compromised the quality of ingredients used.
The issue escalated with a public interest litigation (PIL) filed in the Supreme Court requesting an SIT probe. According to Surjit Singh Yadav, president of the Hindu Sena, the alleged use of animal fat in the revered temple's laddu prasadam offended religious sentiments. The controversy has motivated calls for removing government control over temple administration.
