India has made history by winning its maiden gold medal in the 45th Chess Olympiad, held on Sunday. The victory came after impressive performances by D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi in their respective 11th round matches against Slovenia.

Grandmaster and World Championship contender Gukesh secured a win over Vladimir Fedoseev, while his compatriot Erigaisi outplayed Jan Subelj, leading to India's triumph.

With this win, India ensured its gold medal regardless of the outcomes in the last two games of the Olympiad, as a draw in the 11th round was sufficient to clinch the title.
