British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has praised the contributions of South Asian heritage communities, calling them the "driving force" behind much of the country's innovation. His remarks came during the annual Asian Achievers Awards in London, where several British-Indian achievers were celebrated.

Among the notable awardees were Labour Party veteran Virendra Sharma, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Sukhpal Singh Ahluwalia, founder of Dominvs Group, who was named Business Person of the Year. Other winners included Krishan and Shyam Sedani of Quality Foods Online Ltd and Navita Yadav of Apex Group.

The accolades come amid growing scrutiny of Starmer's government, with reports of expensive gifts from donors leading to questions of undue influence. Starmer's approval ratings have dipped, with a recent poll showing a significant drop since July.
