Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Sunday that the maintenance of the crest gates of the Pampa Sagar dam on the Tungabhadra river will proceed as per the recommendations of experts.
The announcement came as the chief minister, accompanied by his deputy D K Shivakumar and ministers B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan and Shivaraj Tangadagi, offered 'Baagina' (a traditional thanksgiving) to the river at the dam.
One month after the dam's 19th crest gate was swept away, Siddaramaiah and his team celebrated the dam being filled to the brim. He stated that although the dam gates were due for replacement after 50 years, they have functioned effectively for over 70 years. Furthermore, the reservoir currently holds 101.77 TMC of water, ensuring adequate supply for monsoon and winter sowing seasons.
Siddaramaiah highlighted the collaborative effort of dam expert Kannaiah Naidu, officials, and engineers who worked tirelessly to reinstall the washed-away gate. He reassured farmers that there would be no water shortages and efforts would be made to provide water for a second crop.
